1over 38 million litres saved annually with new water filtration system

At Saputo, we have pledged to accelerate our global climate, water and waste performance by 2025 and as such, we have undertaken several strategic projects to help us deliver on our targets. One such initiative is the innovative water project recently completed in our Dairy Division (Australia).

As we strive to reduce water use within our operations, our team of engineers aimed to find a way to safely reuse water from milk production, while making sure not to damage the facility’s equipment. As a result of their efforts, in late 2020, we installed a more sophisticated water filtration system in one of our Australian facilities which now allows us to reuse the water that evaporates from the milk inside the boiler during processing. Thanks to this new system, our boiler now runs exclusively on evaporator condensate instead of using the local water supply. This means we’re reducing our water consumption by 38,400,000 litres per year1 .

Beyond the water savings, the new filtration system enables the boiler to run more efficiently, which, in turn, helps reduce our chemical usage and energy consumption.

This initiative moves us one step closer towards fulfilling our water and climate goals by 2025:

This is just one example of how we continue to pursue growth as a world-class dairy processor while adopting sustainable solutions.
