Water is a precious resource and is essential to the sustainability of our business and the communities in which we serve and operate.
This is why we are committed to using water resources in an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable way and to implementing solutions to reduce water consumption through reusing and recycling. We are also continuously working towards improving our wastewater quality to protect biodiversity and ecosystems.
In FY20, we pledged to accelerate our global water performance and made a formal commitment to make significant and sustainable progress by 2025.
More specifically, we are committed to:
- Reducing the water intensity of our operations by 10%.
- Improving our wastewater quality year-over-year.
In FY22, we completed the installation of four water projects across our network with the potential to save more than 290,000 m3 of water annually.
We’re proud of the strides we are making in reducing our water consumption. In FY22, we installed a water polisher system to capture, clean-up, and reuse the water in one of our California plants. As a result, we’ll be able to reduce our water use by more than 565,000 m3 per year–the equivalent of almost 230 Olympic swimming pools–and 2% of our global footprint! An additional 10 water-specific projects will be funded in FY23 for a 250,000 m3 of potential water savings, which will go a long way in helping us deliver on our 2025 targets.
