Made in Montréal: Saputo celebrates 70 years of passion and craftmanship

In 2024, Saputo proudly celebrates its 70th anniversary – an important milestone that recognizes seven decades of growth, innovation, and a values-driven work culture. As the Company marks this incredible achievement, it finds itself inspired by the remarkable stories of its past, energized by the opportunities of the present, and united in a collective vision for an even brighter future.

“Seven decades of success doesn’t just happen by chance,” said Carl Colizza, President and CEO of Saputo. “It’s a reflection of our true passion for our products, our customers and our people, with the support of the communities that helped us grow along the way.”

The Saputo name, now synonymous with excellence and tradition, began as a humble family venture – a testament to the value of hard work, honesty, and entrepreneurship. In 1954, Emanuele (Lino) Saputo and his parents started a cheese-making company in Montréal, Québec with just $500 for basic equipment, a bicycle for deliveries, and a passion for quality products.

From those early days, the Company has grown immensely. The bicycle deliveries through the streets of Montréal have since transformed into a global enterprise, with operations in Canada, the United States, Argentina, the United Kingdom, and Australia. As the Company has expanded, so too has its product line: Saputo now produces a wide array of dairy products, from speciality cheeses and butter to fluid milk and dairy alternative ingredients, proudly supplying homes and businesses around the world.

But this success story isn’t just about growth; it’s about people. From skilled plant operators to enthusiastic office workers, each employee has played a vital role on this journey. Every challenge overcome, every innovation brought to life, and every product delivered with care and quality is a testament to the team’s winning spirit.

"Our caring team is what sets up apart, and it is thanks to each and every one of our colleagues that we have been able to thrive for 70 years,” added Colizza

The Company’s progress has been impressive, but what stands out even more is its unwavering dedication to giving back. Over the years, Saputo has remained deeply committed to the communities that have supported it along the way, ensuring its success is shared with those who have been part of its story. From supporting local food banks to sponsoring sports programs, Saputo has always been committed to making a difference where it matters most.

Looking ahead, Saputo is ready to embrace the future with the same enthusiasm and drive that have guided it since its inception. With a focus on sustainability, strategic development, and continued excellence, the team is poised to keep leading the dairy industry into new and exciting territories. Here’s to the next chapter of Saputo’s journey, built on a strong foundation and driven by a shared passion for greatness.

Cheers to 70 years – and many more!

SAPUTO THROUGH THE YEARS

Arriving in Canada in search of a brighter future, the Saputo family settled in Montréal and planted the seeds of what is now a global company.
